Why Upgrade from Single-Phase to Three-Phase Electricity?
- Electric Vehicle Charging:
- Single-phase connections usually provide around 11 kWh. Charging your EV with this limited capacity can trip your power supply, especially when other appliances are in use.
- Three-phase connections allow for faster charging. Typically, you can choose between 25 kWh and 40 kWh, with 25 kWh being a sufficient and cost-effective option.
- Integration with Solar Power:

Step 1: Apply for the Change
Application Process:
- In regions like the Netherlands, this upgrade is typically handled by Liander or sometimes via the local municipality (gemmente).
- Identify Liander as your service provider by checking your meter box.
- The application process takes approximately three months. You'll receive an email and a call to set an appointment.

Duration: The actual changeover takes between 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Step 2: Prepare Your Infrastructure
Pro tip: Don't wait until the last minute! Your infrastructure needs to be ready before Liander arrives.
- Ensure your meter box and fuse are compatible with a three-phase connection. You have to make sure the meter is upgraded with in 1 Phase and ready to switch to 3 phase.
- Hire a handyman and an electrician to upgrade your infrastructure.
- Complete the upgrades at least one week before your appointment.
Step 3: Install a Wall Box for Your EV (Optional)
