How to Avail 40% Discount with NS Subscription: A Step-by-Step Guide

It’s been a while since I last wrote, so I thought of wrapping up a couple of things before 2024 begins. This post is for NS subscription holders to understand the updated process for getting a 40% discount on train tickets. This isn’t about earning money through shady tricks but a straightforward guide to the right process.

Market me chillar links se paise kamane wala trick nahi but a right and legit process :-) What is NS Subscription?

NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) offers various subscription plans for frequent travelers using Intercity or Sprinter trains between cities. These subscriptions are designed to save money and start at just €5. For detailed information on the available plans, visit: NS Season Tickets.

    What is the 40% Discount?

If you hold an NS subscription, you can share a 40% discount with up to three co-travelers. Previously, this was easy to avail without restrictions. However, from July 1, 2024, NS has implemented a new code-sharing system to make the process more secure.

    Verifying Your Subscription

You can verify your subscription by logging into the NS App or the NS website. Once logged in, you’ll see the subscription details listed under your account.

Step-by-Step Process to Share and Book Discounted Tickets:
    • Log into the NS App:
      • Open the app and click on “Mijn NS” (My NS).

    • Access Your Subscription Details:
      • Scroll down to locate your subscription details.

      • Just below the subscription information, you’ll find the option to “Share Co-Travel Discount.”

    • Generate and Share the Discount Code:
      • Click on “Share Code.”

      • You can share the code via WhatsApp, email, or directly with the co-traveler. If booking tickets for someone else (e.g., your parents), you can send the link to yourself first and use it later.

    • Using the Code:
      • The recipient can click on the shared link, enter their travel details, and automatically receive the discount when booking tickets.

    Key Updates to the Process:
    1. Code Usage Limit: Each code is valid for booking tickets for up to three co-travelers. Once used for three tickets, you’ll need to generate a new code following the same method.
    2. Subscription Validation: Codes will only work when your subscription is active and aligns with its terms. For instance, a Weekend Subscription code will only work during weekends, and Off-Peak Subscription codes will apply only during off-peak hours.
    3. Unlimited Code Generation: You can generate as many codes as needed, provided your subscription remains active.
    4. Refund for Unused Tickets: If a ticket is booked using the code but remains unused (i.e., not swiped in at the station), you can request a refund after 24 hours.
